Why you need to be angry about this potential damage to our way of life:
1. A rock quarry does not belong near livestock, residences, and the elderly and youth!
2. Quarries release toxic chemicals into the air from the facility and their trucks on the road. Endless truck traffic will be tearing through local Greenback roads. These roads weren’t built for all that weight from rock trucks.
3. This quarry would contaminate creeks that lead into the Little Tennessee River! This would threaten local wildlife, especially fish like the Blue Sucker and Blotchside Logperch. Both fish are highly sensitive to pollution and siltation. Both species are listed as imperiled in Tennessee by NatureServe.
4. Quarries will affect the quality of ground water in the area. Excavation and storing rock and other materials pose a significant threat to the purity and safety of our vital groundwater resources. Also, the chemicals from the quarry’s processes leach into groundwater.
